Te Kotahitanga o Ngāti Tūwharetoa Trust is a forum for all Ngāti Tūuwharetoa hapū to come together as equals, to discuss our common goals, and to support each other to reach final settlement. Te Kotahitanga is the mandated post-settlement representative of Ngāti Tūwharetoa.
Te Kotahitanga includes 26 Ngāti Tuwharetoa hapū. Each hapū appoints a trustee and an alternate to represent their hapū concerns.
In establishing Te Kotahitanga o Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa seek to restore the relationships between whanau, hapū and iwi and recognize the importance of hapū- based decision-making. We recognise that there are capacity issues amongst our whānau, hapū and marae. The best way to address those capacity issues is to start the mahi.
Ngāti Tūwharetoa wish to establish Te Kotahitanga o Ngati Tūwharetoa as a trust that will act as our iwi authority and post-settlement governance entity (to be transparent, accountable and representative of all our members) and to receive and administer the redress from the settlement of our historic Treaty of Waitangi claims.
The Trustees acknowledge that they hold the Trust’s Assets upon the trusts and with the powers set out in the Deed. The Trustees further acknowledge that the trust hereby created shall be known as "Te Kotahitanga o Ngāti Tūwharetoa".
